Faculty:Information Management and Business Analytics

Malgorzata Kolotylo-Kulkarni has received her Ph.D. from Florida International University in Business Administration specializing in Management Information Systems. Her research interests include healthcare IS and cognitive IS, particularly, decision making, decision support systems, and information and knowledge management. In her dissertation she investigated the effectiveness of online decision tools within the contextual settings of decision scenarios, specifically the role that information delivery, decision environment, and user’s cognition play in the effectiveness of those tools. She is particularly interested in consumers’ decision processes in health insurance purchases. She is also studying personal health information management and transfer of knowledge in healthcare (from physician to patient) and its impact on health outcomes of patients. Prior to joining Ph.D., Malgorzata had worked as an IT Business Analyst and Internet Marketing Manager across Europe.

Eric D. Manley, Associate Professor of Computer Science holds a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science (2004, University of Nebraska at Omaha), an M.S. in Computer Science (2006, University of Nebraska-Lincoln), and a Ph.D. in Computer Science (2009, University of Nebraska-Lincoln).

His primary research interest is in computer networking with a recent focus on both theoretical and systems-level issues in network coding and all-optical networks. He also has a strong interest in computer science education and teaches a wide variety of computer science courses including introductory computer science, artificial intelligence, compilers, and computer ethics.

Brad C. Meyer received his PhD in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University in 1989 and shortly after joined the business faculty in Drake’s Zimpleman College of Business. He teaches operations management, data analytics, and management science. From 2000 to 2014 he served as chair of the Management and International Business Department, and chair of Information Management and Business Analytics from 2014 to 2020. He was the CBPA co-director of the data analytics program at Drake from 2015 to 2020. His research focuses on continuous improvement and the use of technology in education. He has published in the Journal of Management, Interfaces, Decision Sciences Journal of Innovative Education, the Journal of Management History and Engineering Economics.

Dr. Alanah Mitchell is the Aliber Distinguished Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Information Management and Business Analytics in the Zimpleman College of Business at Drake University. She holds a Ph.D. in Information Technology from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Professor Mitchell’s research focuses on the design, implementation, and use of information and communication technologies for collaboration, specifically in global virtual teams. Additionally, she researches in areas of e-commerce and information systems pedagogy. She has published in such journals as Business Horizons, Communications of the Association for Information Systems, DATA BASE for Advances in Information Systems, Electronic Markets, Information Technology and People, IT Professional, Journal of the Association for Information Systems, and Organizational Dynamics as well as others. Alanah is a Distinguished Member – Cum Laude of the Association for Information Systems (AIS) as well as a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Troy J. Strader is the Aliber Distinguished Professor of Information Systems in the Drake University Zimpleman College of Business. Dr. Strader received his Ph.D. in Business Administration (Information Systems) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1997. His research interests include information technology ethics, digital product management, online consumer behavior, information technology adoption, and the impact of the Internet and e-business on initial public offerings. Dr. Strader has published in the Journal of the Association for Information Systems, European Journal of Information Systems, International Journal of E-Commerce, Communications of the ACM, Decision Support Systems, Electronic Markets and other academic and practitioner journals and books. He has edited three books, Digital Product Management, Technology and Practice: Interdisciplinary Perspectives, the Handbook on Electronic Commerce, and Mobile Commerce: Technology, Theory and Applications. His work experience is in software development and information systems analysis.

Professor Urness is dedicated to computer science education and has been recognized as the Maddelyn M. Levitt Teacher of the Year in 2018. He has also been awarded the Outstanding Teacher of the Year in the College of Arts and Sciences. His research in computer graphics and scientific visualization is interdisciplinary in nature and has resulted in numerous publications. His collaborations include professors and students from Drake University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy, Department of Biology, Department of Chemistry, as well as Drake’s Zimpleman College of Business.

Professor Urness earned a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Minnesota in 2006.

Professor Urness teaches Introduction to Computer Science I, Computer Graphics, and courses on Cloud Computing and Database Systems.

Christopher Porter, an associate professor in mathematics, has been on faculty at Drake since 2016.  He received his Ph.D. in mathematics and philosophy from the University of Notre Dame in 2012 as part of the joint program in logic and the foundations of mathematics.  In addition, Porter received his undergraduate degree from Gonzaga University. Prior to coming to Drake, Porter he was an NSF international postdoctoral fellow at Université Paris 7 from 2012 to 2014 and a postdoctoral associate at the University of Florida from 2014 to 2016.

Porter’s research is in the areas of computability theory (specifically, algorithmic randomness) and the philosophy of mathematics.
